Penguins are adorable birds that can’t fly, but they are fantastic swimmers! They have short wings that work like flippers, helping them glide through the water like little underwater rockets. Penguins live in cold places like Antarctica, where they waddle around on their strong legs and slide on their bellies to move faster. They are covered in black and white feathers that keep them warm and help them blend in with the icy water. Penguins eat fish, squid, and other sea creatures, which they catch while swimming. They are very social and often live in big groups called colonies. Penguins are known for their cute way of walking and their happy, noisy chatter!
Habitat
Penguins live in very cold places, like the icy regions of Antarctica, but not only there! Some penguins also live on cool islands in the southern parts of the world, like in South Africa, New Zealand, and even the Galápagos Islands near the Equator. They build their homes on rocky shores or icy cliffs. Penguins like to stay close to the ocean because they are great swimmers and spend a lot of time hunting for fish, squid, and krill in the water. On land, they build nests out of stones or make burrows in the sand. Penguins have special feathers that keep them warm in the cold, and their wings work like flippers to help them swim fast and catch their food.
