Dragonflies are amazing insects with long, colorful bodies and big, sparkling wings. They can be bright blue, green, red, or even gold! Dragonflies are fantastic flyers; they can hover in the air, zoom around, and even fly backward. They have four wings that move independently, which helps them be very agile. Dragonflies live near water, like ponds and lakes, where they lay their eggs. Their babies, called nymphs, live in the water and are great swimmers. After a while, the nymphs crawl out of the water, shed their old skin, and turn into adult dragonflies. Dragonflies eat other insects, like mosquitoes, which helps keep those bugs away. They are also fun to watch because of their speedy flying and beautiful colors. Dragonflies show us how special and interesting nature can be!
Habitat
Dragonflies like to live near water, such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers. They lay their eggs in the water, where their babies, called nymphs, will grow up. Dragonflies need water because their nymphs live underwater and breathe through tiny gills. They love warm, sunny places with lots of plants and insects.
